Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon (oncology/reconstruction) - Auckland District Health Board-ADHB6315

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Service, Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) invites applications from two suitably qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

To be successful, you will be an experienced OMS surgeon, competent in the full scope of OMS, with a special interest in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery.  You must hold or be eligible for registration as a specialist OMS surgeon with the Medical Council and Dental Council of New Zealand.  As a 24/7 OMS service, we require that the successful candidates contribute to after-hours on-call – on a roster basis.

The ADHB Regional OMS service provides hospital-based, tertiary-level specialist services to 1.6 million people domiciled within the Metro Auckland and Northland District Health Boards of New Zealand.

In this role you will provide regional acute, elective and outpatient OMS Services, as part of a team of OMS specialists. You will work closely with ORL Head and Neck surgery, Plastic surgery and Medical/Radiation oncology as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing complex head and neck oncology clinical services. You will also work closely with the Hospital and Specialist Dentistry (HSD) service (oral medicine, restorative prosthodontics, orthodontists, paediatric dentistry).

The current OMS team consists of 6 part-time OMS surgeons, 2 full-time trainee registrars, 1 non-training registrar and 2 dental house officers. There is a heavy acute load (odontogenic infections, facial trauma). Elective operating includes dento-alveolar, implantology, orthognathics, benign pathology and TMJ surgery. Auckland is a training centre in OMS, accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. You will have the opportunity to participate in Registrar training.

These roles are permanent, full-time (negotiable), based at Auckland City and Middlemore hospitals.   All current hospital OMS surgeons work part-time in private practice, and there would be opportunities for the successful candidates to do likewise.

This is an opportunity for the right people to enjoy the challenge of both public and private work, in a desirable location, 'down-under'.  New Zealand has a lot to offer; the great outdoors with beaches, bush and mountains, shows and concerts, sports, shopping, wining and dining. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and is known as the 'City of Sails' due to its proximity to the beautiful Hauraki Gulf islands.
