La chirurgie am\u00e9liore l\u2019apparence du visage de l\u2019enfant, mais aide aussi l\u2019enfant \u00e0 sucer et \u00e0 \u00e9mettre certains sons importants dans le d\u00e9veloppement du langage.<\/p><p>Les fentes palatines sont r\u00e9par\u00e9es lorsque les enfants ont entre six et douze mois. Le palais est habituellement r\u00e9par\u00e9 en une ou deux chirurgies, selon la gravit\u00e9 de la fente. Cette chirurgie aide l\u2019enfant \u00e0 parler et \u00e0 manger en emp\u00eachant l\u2019air, la nourriture et les liquides de monter dans son nez.<\/p><p>Une fente de la gencive peut se produire en concomitance avec une fente labiale. Cela peut aller d\u2019une petite encoche \u00e0 la gencive \u00e0 une division compl\u00e8te de la gencive en diff\u00e9rentes parties. On r\u00e9pare ce type de fente avec un greffon osseux, habituellement lorsque l\u2019enfant a entre six et douze ans, selon son d\u00e9veloppement dentaire.
