If rail travel is preferred, VIA Rail and AMTRAK bring visitors into the heart of the city each day. Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is located directly above the terminal at Montréal’s Central Station – follow signage for the hotel entrance from the station.
If you are driving, the island of Montréal is easily accessed by many roads and expressways, including the Trans-Canada Highway. Montréal is the largest city in the province of Québec, a bilingual metropolis in North America, and one of the largest French-speaking cities in the world after Paris. Its cosmopolitan reputation is enviable: colonized by the French and later the British, today, the confluence of cultures from around the globe continues to leave its mark on Montréal’s multifaceted and spirited character and its legendary joie de vivre. From the cobblestone streets of the old city to the dynamic and modern downtown, Montréal seduces visitors with a harmonious pairing of the historic and the new, a striking union of European charm and North American attitude. Enjoy shopping for urban fashion downtown on lively Sainte-Catherine Street; meandering through French colonial history while stopping at delightful restaurants, art galleries and boutiques in wonderfully preserved Old Montréal; lovely sunset views of the St. Lawrence River in the Old Port while witnessing the commercial and industrial history that shaped the city; or stunning city views while strolling in nature on the trails of beautifully landscaped Mount Royal Park, a mountain in the heart of the city. Exquisite architecture, creative arts, world-class entertainment, glorious food, vibrant culture and a nightlife that never stops – Montréal has it all!
