Anaesthesia
Your doctor has received special training that prepares him to provide services using local anesthesia, I.V. sedation, or general anaesthesia.
Different procedures necessitate different types of anaesthesia.Your doctor will discuss which type of anaesthesia is best for you and your particular needs.
For most surgical procedures performed it is likely your doctor will use a combination of:
- Intravenous medications
- Local anaesthetic
By using a combination of medications, you will experience a safe level of anaesthesia. You will breathe on your own and have no recollection of your surgery. This technique has been used for many years and patients find it to be a smooth, safe and pleasant experience.
It is essential to remember that patients MUST NOT eat or drink after midnight (not even water!) prior to a general anaesthetic. This is VITALLY important!
The night before surgery eat a light, easily digestible meal, consume NO alcoholic beverage and retire early. If you smoke, we recommend you do not smoke the morning of your surgery.
